Description:
It's a very large, dark brown rodent that has a black, scaly tail
which is horizontally flattened and paddle shaped and used as a
rudder while swimming.

Habitat:
Beavers live in rivers or ponds. They build dams across rivers
out of mud and wood.
|
Food: The
beaver's diet changes seasonally. In spri ng and summer, they feed
on grasses, leaves, ferns, and algea. In fall, they prefer woody
items. Their winter food is stored underwater near the lodge.
|
Range:
The beaver occurs throughtout most of Canada and all of British
Columbia in rivers, streams, marshes, lakes and ponds.

Reproduction:
Breeding occurs in late April to early July. They usually have
3-4 kits.

Other: Some
predators of the beaver include coyotes, wolves, bears, lynx, and
wolverines.
