Description:
Adult bobcats are 10-20 pounds. They have short bobbed tails, pronounced
ear tufts and cheeks. They have small feet. Their basic color is
light gray, with yellow-brown to red-brown markings from stripes
to heavy spots.
Habitat:
Bobcats are found in coniferous and mixed forest in the North
and also swampy area's down in Florida.
Food: They
have a great appetite for hares, and rabbits. Larger males will
hunt deer in the winter months. They will also hunt squirrels, chipmunks,
rodents, and birds.
Range:
They range from the Canadian/USA boarder down through Mexico.
Reproduction:
They breed between February and June. They are known to breed all
year. They usually give birth to 1-6 young. This process takes 60
days.
Other:
Their greatest enemy is the human. Kittens will stay with their
mother for the first year. Some bobcats are forced to live in urban
areas.
