One day a man went to another place to sell stuff. When he finished selling the stuff, he walked back home. Halfway home he got lost but he kept walking and walking. Soon he got tired and fell down on his knees hurt him. He had to stay there for three or four days. His food ran out. One night he was so hungry he didn’t know what to do, he just sat there. One of the bats flew around and around him. The bat knew the man was hungry, and he flew away to try to bring food for the man. Two days later, the man felt better and tried to get home. Finally he got home and made a little house for the bat to live. One day he told his family and neighbors how the bat helped him when he was hurt. He told them not to kill the bat. The bat could understand what people talk about and help them.

Beaver’s Story
One dark, rainy day Kit Beaver asked Grandfather to tell a story.
Centuries ago, our ancestors lived on the land like our cousins the Mice
and Rats. Beavers traveled and ate during the day, and slept in underground
burrows at night.
Not all animals were as fortunate as Beaver. Trees grew very close to
the rivers, making it hard for animals to get a drink. Elk, Skunk, Fish,
Porcupine and Frog needed places to live. So they sent a delegation to
talk to Beaver.
Beaver cut tress and drug branches into the water to make a dam. He made
a home inside and put the door under water.
His family had a safe, clean home. Fish and Frogs had enough water. Elk,
Rabbit, Skunk, and Beaver’s cousins Mice and Rats had meadows. Everyone
was happy.
That is how Beaver became the most important engineer in the animal kingdom.

Braggart Rabbit
Many, many years ago, there lived a cowardly rabbit. He was scared of everything. Even when an old leaf from the tree fell on the ground, he jumped high in the air and ran for about half an hour. When he got so tired and couldn’t run anymore, he just hide in a bush and waited until his heart beat normally again. He didn’t have a day without getting scared almost to death.
One very dangerous winter in his life, he gad to run from wolves and foxes
couple times a day. After the winter, he was scared of even his own tail.
Finally, he got tired of being scared all the time. So he said,“
I am not scared of anyone anymore”! A couple of other rabbits heard
him and started laughing. But the cowardly rabbit wanted to be brave.
Then he got on the stump and started shouting that he was not scared of
the wolf, fox, or even a bear. A lot of other young rabbits like him,
got out in a clearing to take a look at the braggart. The old rabbits
moved their heads and felt sorry for him. All the young rabbits started
laughing and got too excited. They started jumping and tumbling. Everybody
had fun.
During that time, a hungry wolf was passing by. He heard that rabbits
are having fun and they won’t see him until it will be late. Stealthily,
he got really close to the jumping rabbits. The first thing he heard was,
“ I am not scared of the gray, ugly wolf. I would eat him myself
if he showed up right now”. That sounded funny to him, and he wanted
to catch that brave rabbit. The bush was in his way, so he had to make
his way through it. The cowardly rabbit was on the stump, so the wolf
saw him first and then all the others. The brave rabbit noticed the wolf
first, so he froze with an open mouth. His heart stopped beating. The
other rabbits ran away quickly, but the brave rabbit just jumped as high
as he could. The wolf jumped to get him too, but at that moment, something
hit him in a head. He got real scared and he ran away. The rabbit thought
the wolf is running after him and he would get him any moment, so he ran
the opposite direction from the wolf. Soon, he couldn’t run anymore,
so he just fell into the HotLe under a bush and got ready to die.
When the wolf ran away, all the other rabbits got out and talked about
how a young rabbit scared a wolf away. They started looking for that rabbit,
but they couldn’t find him anywhere. After one hour of looking, they
found him barely breathing, a mile away from that place. On of the rabbits
thanked him for scaring a wolf away. He got out from the HotLe and said,
“ I told you guys I could scare a wolf away, but you never believed
me”. From that time on, nobody ever called him a cowardly rabbit.

Coyote
One day in the desert,
Coyote’s pack was running low on food. All the coyotes told him to
go get some food so he started walking towards town. When he got to town
he was in the form of a human. Coyote often shape-shifted into human form.
Coyote thought of how he was going to get some food since he didn’t
have any money. He decided to steal some.
He walked into a meat store and looked around for a little while until
he quietly grabbed some meat. He started walking out of the store when
the butcher realized he had been thieved. The butcher grabbed his gun
and shot at Coyote, hitting him in the leg. Coyote ran away to his pack
and once he returned to the wild he started yelling in pain. As he changed
back to his animal form, his yells turned to howls. The other coyotes
ran to him, and seeing that he had meat, thought that he was howling in
happiness. After Coyote told them he had been shot his pack fixed his
leg. To this day the coyotes still howl at the moon when there is a bad
or good event.

How the Little
Bobcat got in Trouble
Once long time ago, a little baby bobcat wanted to go play in the park. He went and asked his mom if he could play a little with his friends in the park. His mom said no, because he was too young to go alone with friends and there would be nobody to watch them. The little bobcat got very upset. So he decided he would go alone without telling his mom anything. He sneaked outside and ran and ran until he reached a big castle. He got into the castle without anybody knowing where he was. He was very scared that somebody would catch him. So he ran into a big room where he hid. After an hour, a lady came into the big room and and saw him running on the floor. She caught him and put him into a little cage where he was crying and crying. Now, at night, at about 3:00 am, you can hear him make some noises in the little cage.

Deer
There was a time when deer didn’t have antlers. When they were danger they saved themselves by running away, but the ones that were weak or sick got hurt. Now I’m going to tell you about one of those deer that didn’t have antlers. This deer was named Liu. He didn’t have parents, because they died in the fire. Anyway, Liu wasn’t alone, because he had a lot of friends that lived like him.
One fall morning Liu was awakened. Liu wasn’t sure why he was awake,
until he saw another deer rubbing his head on his stomach. “Good
morning friend Liu”, said the other deer. “Hi Fiodor” answered
Liu. “Dude you scared the hell out of me.” “ Forget it,
let’s run to the Columbia River.”
Liu and Fiodor took off to the river. When they got there they saw a squirrel
picking up nuts. “Hi Milka”, said Liu. “What are you doing?”
“Picking up the nuts”, she answered. “Yes, but why do you
do that?” Fiodor asked her.
“Because its going to be cold and I need food for the winter”,
said squirrel and run away.
Lui said, “That’s weird," and bent over to drink some water.
He looked in the water he saw little bumps on his head. Lui was surprised,
then looked at Fiodor and saw the same things on his head. “Fiodor,
look on your head, what you got there.” Then Fiodor looked in the
water at himself and got scared, “What the hell is that on our heads?”
“I don’t know,” answered Lui,” I’ve never seen
anything before. Maybe we ate something bad or that’s because the
winter is coming.
The deer took off to look for the squirrel, but they couldn’t find
her. When it was getting dark they gave up, and went to sleep. When Fiodor
fell asleep Lui went to the river to look at himself. When he saw his
head he was even more surprised, because instead of little bumps he had
a little branches on there. Fiodor was very sad, because he thought he’s
becoming a tree. He said, “I don’t want to be a tree.”
Liu started running around, so he wouldn’t stick to the ground. When
he got tired he fell asleep.
The next morning, Liu was awakened by Fiodor. He said, “Liu get up
look what’s growing on my head and on yours too.” But Liu smiled
and said,” I had a dream that we are growing our antlers, and we
don’t have to worry about that.” Fiodor jumped and both of them
ran in the field and all other animals looked and said, “What’s
nice antlers they have!”

Lost Medal
Many of years before man was made, all the animals planned a big food making competition. The sign said, “A competition starts next week at 7:00 a.m. The one who makes the best food will win a gold medal!”
On each tree they posted a big paper with writing in three languages Russian,
English and Spanish. The judge was a very strict deer and his secretary
was a rabbit with a big fluffy tail. Everybody was busy preparing food,
squirrel was cooking nuts, the rabbits were making a salad with carrots,
so all the forest smelled like a kitchen.
When the time came to bring food, all the animals started thinking a about
the gold medal and the lucky animal who would sit by the King. But something
happened. At night, someone squeezed through a little HotLe and stole the
gold medal! All the animals started looking for the medal but they couldn’t
find it.
The strict deer started swearing at all animals that lived close by, asking
where the gold medal was hidden. They knew for sure that guilty animal
must be small because the HotLe was a very little. “Who stole the
medal?” asked deer. “I will not let anyone leave until you bring
the medal,” but every on was just quiet.
Three days later all the animals saw squirrel with a lot of money, which
she was spending on food, clothes, and other stuff. Then, they found out
the squirrel stole the gold medal and sold it to a shrew, her future husband.
Now squirrel was getting ready for her wedding and everybody forgot about
the gold medal.

Raccoon
Two hundred years ago people lived with animals. The forest was calm and quiet. Small insects were hidden under the stones. The Raccoon lived in a cave. They had enough room and enough food for everybody. Everyday while they slept, the smart young Raccoon would sneak out to grab food and hid it in his cave. He was being selfish with the food.
One day his mother discovered that he was hiding food in his cave. When
she found out, she was surprised and disappointed. Mother asked,”
How did you get the food.” He refused to answer and kept mumbling
without making any sense.
The next day he ran away from home and met a Raccoon girl, named Rowdy,
in the forest. They planned to go back to the cave. They started talking
about their plan. Little Raccoon said, “Should we be partners?”
Rowdy replied, “Sure, I know just the place to go” When they
entered the cave it was very quiet and everyone was asleep. They took
the food and Rowdy stepped on someone’s tail. The other animals woke
up screaming. Rowdy and Little Raccoon dropped the food and ran to the
side of the cave to hide. Everybody was wondering who brought the food
into the sleeping rooms. They started searching all over the cave to find
the enemy who was in their room with the food. Rowdy and Little Raccoon
were just hiding in the cave and they were very quiet.
The second day when the other animals woke up in the morning, they noticed
the footprints of animals. They searched and finally, they figured out
who was there that night, but they didn’t find the Little Raccoon
and Rowdy. They were gone. They took some food with them and went to Rowdy’s
house. They were happy because they didn’t get caught in Little Raccoon’s
house.
After everything that had happened, they decided to be more than friends.
So, Little Raccoon never returned back home again. Raccoon married Rowdy
and they had two beautiful kids a boy and a girl. Their names were Christie
Raccoon, and Marvin Raccoon. They are all a happy family.
