  Description: They are about 14 inches in length and have a wing span of 20 to 23 inches. They are gray all over with black bands from their eyes down to below their necks. They also have several black bars on their sides and bright red on their bills.   Habitat: They prefer rocky terrain but have been seen in open woodlands and grasslands.
         
  Food: They feed on grass seeds, weed seeds, green leaves and flowers. If available, they eat waste grains and wild fruits. In they summer they feed on insects and in the winter they consume cheat grass.   Enemies: Chukars are hunted by humans.
         
  Range & migration: They are found in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada and the Western states of California, Colorado, Nevada and Washington. They are permanent residents of these regions.   Reproduction: Both the male and female incubate the eggs, which are whitish with brown spots, for 24 days. The young fly after about 14 days. There is one brood a year.
