  Description: The shrike is 7-9 inches in length with a 12.5 – 13 inch wingspan. They are black masked with a hooked-black bill. Males and female have similar characteristics of gray, black and white feathers and
slim black tail and a large head
  Habitat: Inhabit open grassy country with scattered shrubs or small trees.

  Range & migration: They are short-distance migrants that live in south central Canada through the lower forty-eight states to south Mexico. They are mostly permanent residents in southern United States and Mexico.   Reproduction: They have two broods a year in the north and sometimes three in the south. They usually return to the area where they nested the previous year.
The female incubates the eggs during a 16-day period and the male feeds her. Both the female and male feed the young. They fly when they are about 16 days old buy they stay with the adults for 3-4 more weeks.
         
  More information: Loggerhead Shrike is an Endangered Species in Canada and parts of California.
They are also known as a butcher bird because they impale the body of its prey on a fence wire or spine of a plant.
