  Description: These birds are black and white with a long tail and a black beak. They sometimes look greenish because of their iridescent wings and tail.   Habitat: Open areas, farmlands, gardens, parks
         
  Food: Insects, berries, eggs and nestlings   Enemies: humans; Magpies are killed by ingesting poison intended for other animals.
         
  Range & migration: They live from Eastern Washington and Oregon to the Dakotas and south to New Mexico. They reach into Western Canada and Alaska.   Reproduction: These birds are monogamous and make a domed nest of twigs. The nests have a side entrance and are made near the crown of trees or shrubs. The eggs are bluish green with brown spots and there are 2 to 9 per brood. The female incubates the eggs for 14 to 23 days and the young are fed by both parents. The young stay in the nest for about 10 days. There is one brood a year.
         
  More information: Magpies can mob other birds to steal their food and have been none to scavenger at picnic sites.
