| Description: Large, rounded-winged, ground-dwelling, chicken like bird. Its around 22 inches in length. Long pointed tail and legs are feathered to base of toes. | Habitat: Nest under sage of average height of 40 1/2 cm. About 7 inches or more of herbaceous cover is associated with successful nesting because it helps hide nests from predators. | ||||
| Food: They mostly eat sagebrush and some seeds. | Enemies: Cottontail rabbit, jack rabbit, and hunters are enemies of sage grouse. Like these birds, rabbits live in grasslands, and destroy their nests. 50% of their deaths are caused by predators. | ||||
| Range & migration: Breeds from central Washington, Southern Idaho, Montana, and Western North Dakota. | Reproduction: Hens can produce up to 12 chicks, but are lucky if eight of them are still around six months later. | ||||
