Ranger Lisa Eschenbach

I started working for Olympic National Park when I was 18 years old. I've hiked over 3,000 miles in this park, through deep lush forests, fast moving clear water, high alpine meadows and blue-green glaciers. What a treat to come back with a world class group of awesome students and adult leaders.

This trip took us into the heart of Olympic National Park, and into places that few travel. We sought to capture the essence of this wilderness through scientific studies, writing, and pictures. Unfortunately, much of what we experienced, smelled, felt, and visually recorded thoughout the day, will remain locked in our memories. What can be shared is recorded here for you today, and for the future.

The Park Service is committed to preserving Olympic National Park so that it will be protected over generations. It will be all of our task to go back 5, 10 and 100 years from now and use the information on this site to check to see that the Elwha Valley has retained its wildness.

Maybe... it will be even better with the removal of two dams that will open the river to one of the most sacred animal of the Elwha, the salmon.
