Ethnohistory Educational Comparison
While archaeologists study artifacts to learn about past cultures, cultural anthropologists use ethnohistory to compare human cultures, behaviors, and the ways these things change over time. In this lesson you will become a cultural anthropologist and your research assignment is to compare and contrast the cultures of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the southern Appalachian Mountain people during a similar time period. To narrow the focus of your study, you will focus on how each of these cultures received education from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. These two groups of people have many stereotypes and misconceptions about their heritage and education. This comparison will dispel myths and help students understand how they were educated during this time period.
