Lesson Plans
Developed for teachers and inspired by the fossil findings of Marshall
P. Felch, use these lesson plans to teach the classroom to value and care
for the rich paleontological and historic heritage of Cañon City,
Colorado. Discover the cultural and fossil resources at Garden Park Fossil
Area and their contribution to scientists' modern understanding of Jurassic
dinosaurs.

In Digging
for Dinos, students will research paleontological expeditions
in the 1880s using the correspondence of Marsh and Felch, determine
a budget for an expedition in the 1880s, and determine a budget
for an expedition in the current year.

In Interview
with a Dinosaur, students will use the online interactive map
of Marsh/Felch Quarry, research dinosaur natural history, and conduct
a dinosaur interview with a partner.

In Show
Me the Dinos, students will use the online interactive map of
Marsh/Felch Quarry, graph information contained in the map, and
theorize about historic habitat at Garden Park dinosaur area.
