Welcome to Hands on the Land's E-Learning web site. Member sites provide on-line educational courses for students, teachers, and the general public.

If you are a student, teacher or course leader who is participating in a online fieldtrip, get started by choosing your course below.

Program providers who are interested in providing or creating courses may apply for membership with Hands on the Land today.

Appalachian Artifact Exploration

Students will analyze pictures of artifacts provided by the Appalachian cultural archives to observe the physical properties as well as characteristics of an object, infer uses or function of objects, and discover how archaeologists use objects to learn about the past.
Creating E-Learning Fieldtrips with Moodle

Hands on the Land members will learn about creating e-learning courses using Moodle. Please contact one of the courses teachers for an enrolment key.
Snow Science
- Teacher: Dave Miller
Snow Science explores how snow changes as it falls from the clouds, lands on the earth, and potentially slides down a mountain side.
Marine Debris--It's Time to Talk About Trash
- Teacher: Cindy Heffley
As an individual or as a team, this course will show participants how they fit in to the marine debris problem School groups and other youth groups, in particular, can become part of the solution whether on site or from home.

Animals that break down detritus (wood, leaves, sticks, feces, etc) for food. This is often done by physically breaking up detrital materials.
