Prehistory
Prior to 1997, only 338 acres were accessible to the public. Subsequently, Columbia County purchased an adjacent 987 acres with money obtained through the Preservation 2000 Communities Trust. This purchase included nearly 450 acres of former lake bottom that were diked and drained for agricultural practices in the 1950's and 1960's. Columbia County
- Facilities
There are two large pavilions for you and your fishing club, company or troop to rent; these have full, covered kitchens, and plenty of power. There are also smaller covered areas with concrete pads and grills with tables, with some right on the shoreline. These are free of charge! The lake is the perfect place just to hang out and have fun. There are two multipurpose courts, three volleyball courts, playgrounds, one softball field and the lake like if you get ambitious. For water fun, you can rent a paddle boat by the hour for casual cruising or try a canoe or jon boat for the day. The fishing is great, and bass, panfish and catfish are stocked regularly. The lake record bass is over 13 pounds, some catfish are even bigger than that. You can fish from the dam, shore, or wooden pier. We ask that you please don't fish from the boat dock! Recreation Opportunities: 12 miles of Hiking/Biking Trails Playground (Handicapped Accessible) 5 Covered Picnic Pavilions (1st come 1st served) Ponderosa Pavilion (reservations only) Nature Observation Sand Volleyball Court Horseshoe Pit Fishing Canoe Trails Canoe Launch ADA restrooms
