Discover the wonder in your own backyard! The Backyard
Discoveries program educates the public about ecosystem
science through hands-on experiences and volunteer opportunities.
The process of science is presented through natural collection
efforts (a herbarium and an insect collection), as well
as environmental monitoring (bird banding, water quality
testing and an annual butterfly count), involving public
participation in natural resource management. Other opportunities
include our seasonal public series, the Fireside Chats,
the Midsummer Nights Science and Science in a Backpack.
