Along the southern California coastline, National
Wildlife Refuges (NWR) have been set aside since 1972 to
protect and preserve habitat for wildlife. Coastal marshes,
tidal mudflats, vernal pool wetlands and coastal uplands
are a few of the habitats now protected within the San Diego
NWR Complex.
