Neo-tropical Resting Grounds
Wedged
between the arid landscape of the western Utah and barren
grasslands of eastern Utah, Uinta National Forest funnels
neo-tropical birds north who seek food, water and refuge
during
the spring and summer months. Uinta also helps them migrate
safely to the tropics during autumn's southerly journey.
Each year, waves of over 30 species follow the
narrow band of forests. Researchers monitor these populations
to check-up on the populations' health. They also search
for ways to protect habitat here and along their entire
flywayfrom the jungles of Central America to the forests
of Canada.
