While
hiking off the trail with Roy, Blanca felt her self getting
really cold. What should Roy do?
Getting
really cold is a possible symptom of hypothermia, meaning
a low body temperature. By removing the patient from the cold
environment would be one of the procedures of treating this
patient. If you can't remove the person removing all wet clothing
and covering the patient with a blanket or foil would be the
best idea or procedure.
After
hiking many days in the snow and freezing temperatures Roy
notices that his feet are frostbitten. What should you do
to help him?
Frost
bites are really really delicate you would probably think
about removing wet clothing and cover the injured part loosely
with a dry, or sterile dressing. NEVER! rub the the frost
bitten part, this may cause it to fall off. Still don't let
the patient stand or walk on a frostbitten foot.
While
hiking along the trail Brenda notices that she is getting
tired rather easy and feels really hot. What do you think
you could do to help her?
Noticing that the person is having problems and is getting
tired and hot could be or are some symptoms of overheating.
If the patient hasn't fainted he/she might complain about
being dizzy. If such thing persists move the patient to
a cool environment as quickly as possible.
