Some
of the insects you should watch out for when you go camping
or hiking in the wilderness are mosquitos, ticks, biting
flies, horse flies, bees, and spiders.
If
you ever go camping or hiking in the wilderness you should
always have some sort of bug repellent, preferably Deet.
It is one of the best insect/bug repellents that you can
buy. If you are allergic to Deet you can put it on the outside
of your clothing and it will work just as good. When you
go camping or hiking you need to wear tight clothes so bugs
can't eat through them. Bugs can eat through loose fitting
clothing and loosely woven fabric. In addition, try to wear
light colored clothes, because mosquitos are not as attracted
to them. Also wear shirts with cuffs and try tucking your
pants into your socks.
If you get stung by a bee and want to relieve the pain you
can chew up some tobacco (hopefully you won't have any with
you because the effects of tobacco are far worse than a
bug bite or sting!) and put it over where you have been
stung. You can also put baking soda and water over the sting
to remove the pain. Mud will also work.
If you ever find a tick on you or someone else's body, it
is important to remove it immediately. Ticks can cause Lyme
Disease. Click here for info on Lymes Disease. The best
way to remove a tick is to put Vaseline where the tick is.
The Vaseline suffocates the tick which will make it come
up for air so you can easily pull it off. You can also use
rubbing alcohol, nail polish, or pull it out with tweezers.
The tweezers way is not very safe because you can leave
the head in the skin and that area can get infected.
