Although it is beneficial in the wilderness to split into
smaller groups when hiking in a large group to preserve
the terrain, these smaller groups should not become too
separated. Also, individual members of a hiking group
should stay together. This prevents someone falling behind
and becoming lost or hurt. If the group stays together,
safety greatly increases. By staying together, group members
can help each other out in emergency situations and normal
day-to-day operations. In this way the ease and enjoyment
of the trip is enhanced.
